Nancy Nagel’s
Whimsical Glass Rattles

Glass Line / October/November, 2000 - Vol. 14 No. 3

Artists Statement:

Creating an image from my imagination that evokes a smile is the theme of my work. The glass rattle was originally dreamed of, to whimsically celebrate the comedy in the animal world. As the rattle is formed, there seems to be an on-going dialogue between the animal character and myself.

That is great. It made me laugh. Is it really sturdy enough to shake? Is it hollow with something inside to rattle? Love the mischievous looking raccoon.
Thanks for sharing.

Yes, you can shake it lightly, like anything it has its limits, the rattle is hollow and inside are tiny little white glass bones that are shaped like dog biscuits, you would never know that the bones were inside unless it broke. This is one of my favorite pieces out of the series of rattles Nancy made; I don't know if she still makes them, I just liked the idea of raccoon holding up a party mask, it always puts a smile on my face when I see it.
